Progression

The core progression system tracks 24 blessed fruits distributed among three entities: Betaal, Manish, and Apsara.

  • Fruits are earned only through Boss victories
  • After each boss win, you choose which entity receives the fruit
  • Failures never create new fruits — they add leaf penalties instead
  • The ledger determines dominance, endings, and run difficulty

Your run map is built from a deck of leaves (nodes). The leaf deck starts at 24 leaves and grows as you earn fruits.

  • Each room shows 4 nodes — you must clear 3 of 4 to advance
  • 1 free skip per room (cannot skip twice in a row)
  • Cannot skip once you’ve entered a node

Difficulty scales by adding more enemies, not by inflating stats.

When you lose a Boss fight:

  • A Phantom variant of that leaf is added to your deck
  • Phantom leaves are harder versions that give no fruit reward

Phantom leaves are capped at 30% of deck size (7 at 24 leaves, 18 at 60 leaves).

You can spend a fruit to reset escalation chance to base.

Dominant completion is checked when all 24 fruits are distributed. One entity must hold at least 9 fruits (e.g. 9/8/7 or 10/8/6).

  • The dominant entity grants 1 baby part
  • A full baby requires completing dominant runs for all 3 entities
  • 8/8/8 is NOT a dominant completion — it’s reserved for the hidden ending

If the top two entities are tied (e.g. 9/9/6):

  • The run is invalid for normal payout
  • 2 extra hard combats are added
  • If cleared, baby parts are awarded for both tied entities

Requires:

  • All 24 fruits, exactly 8-8-8 distribution
  • No phantom leaves
  • Full baby assembled, cradle acquired
  • Only way to unmask the sage POV reveal

On a loss, the losing entity or Moon Woman may offer a gamble. This lets you retain one item into your next run:

  • 1 card, 1 tile, 1 slot upgrade, 1 dice upgrade, 1 elemental deck, 1 consumable, or 1 relic

The entity with the fewest fruits becomes jealous and adds negative leaves. If any entity exceeds 13 fruits, extra harmful leaves are added (with 1 helpful leaf to soften).
